Timing & Spacing
Timing dictates how long an action takes. Spacing dictates how the object moves through that time. Together, they define the physical properties (weight, friction) and the personality of the movement.
Even spacing creates a robotic feel, while eased spacing (slow-in, slow-out) feels more natural. Mastery of timing and spacing is the mark of a skilled animator and is fundamental to both 2D and 3D work.
