2D Animation Studio

Hand-crafted 2D animation that tells stories people actually remember. From character-driven narratives to bold motion graphics, every frame is made with intention.

London 2D Animation Studio

We're a team of illustrators and animators who happen to love the craft of 2D. Whether it's hand-drawn character work, motion graphics, vector animation, or detailed frame-by-frame sequences, we build every project around the story it needs to tell.

Every piece of 2D animation we produce is designed from scratch, shaped by your brief and sharpened by our creative instincts. We've delivered 2D animation for title sequences, brand campaigns, explainer videos, social content, and independent film, and the thing that stays constant across all of it is care. We take the time to get the design right before a single frame moves.

Our studio sits in London, but we work with clients and agencies globally. Same process, same attention, same results.

Character Animation & Design

Character Animation & Design

Original characters built from the ground up. We design, rig, and animate characters that carry personality and emotional weight, whether that's for a brand mascot, an animated short, or a full series.

Frame-by-Frame Animation

Frame-by-Frame Animation

The most expressive form of 2D animation. Every frame is individually drawn, giving you fluid, organic movement with a handcrafted feel that simply can't be replicated with shortcuts.

Why Work With Us

01

Breathtaking Illustration

Everything we animate starts as a piece of illustration we're proud of. That's not an accident. We're a studio of illustrators first, and that obsession with how things look before they move is what gives our 2D animation its depth, its detail, and its personality. It's the thing people notice.

Built Around Your Story

We don't start animating until we understand what the work needs to do. Who it's for, where it lives, what it should make people feel. That thinking shapes every design decision, every frame, every edit. The result is animation that doesn't just look good. It lands.

Creative Direction From Start to Finish

You get a single creative vision across the entire project, from the first sketch to the final render. No hand-offs between disconnected teams. Our directors steer the work and keep everything cohesive, which means fewer surprises and a stronger end product. It's why clients like ITV, Sky, and PepsiCo keep coming back.

How We Work

How a 2D Animation Project Works

Every project follows a clear, collaborative process. You're involved at every stage, so nothing lands on your desk as a surprise. Here's how it typically plays out.

  • Creative development & concept
  • Script & storyboards
  • Styleframes & design frames
  • Full animation production
  • Sound design & music
  • Final delivery in all formats
01

Discovery

We start by understanding what you need the animation to achieve. Who's it for? Where will it live? What does success look like? We gather references, align on tone and style, and make sure the brief is watertight before any creative work begins.

02

Script & Storyboard

If the project needs a script, we write it (or work from yours). Then we map the narrative visually through storyboards. This is where the story takes shape, beat by beat. You'll see the structure and sign off before we move to design.

03

Design & Styleframes

This is where the look comes together. We develop styleframes that define the visual identity of the animation: characters, colour palette, typography, environments. Think of it as a blueprint for the finished piece. We don't move forward until you love it.

04

Animation Production

The exciting part. Our animators bring the approved designs to life, frame by frame. You'll see work-in-progress at regular checkpoints, giving you the chance to steer things if needed. No black boxes.

05

Sound Design & Music

Sound is half the experience. We work with composers and sound designers to build an audio layer that elevates the animation, whether that's an original score, voiceover direction, or bespoke sound effects.

06

Final Delivery

We deliver your 2D animation in every format you need: broadcast, social, web, presentation. All files, all specs, ready to go.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our 2D animation services.

Most 2D animation projects take between 4 and 10 weeks from brief to delivery. A shorter social asset or simple motion graphic might come together in 3 to 4 weeks, while a longer narrative piece or full character animation can take 8 to 12 weeks. The biggest variables are the length of the animation, the complexity of the design, and how many rounds of feedback happen at each stage. We always agree timelines upfront and keep you updated throughout. If you're working to a fixed deadline, let us know early. We can often adjust the production schedule or scale the team to meet it.

There's no single answer because every project is different. A 30-second social animation has a very different scope to a 3-minute explainer or a full title sequence. The main factors that affect cost are the length of the animation, the style and complexity of the design, whether characters need to be created from scratch, and whether you need scriptwriting, voiceover, or original music. We're always transparent about pricing. Get in touch with a brief or even a rough idea, and we'll give you an honest ballpark.

2D animation works in two dimensions, with movement created through illustrated frames, whether hand-drawn, vector-based, or digitally painted. It tends to feel more graphic, illustrative, and stylised. 3D animation builds objects and characters in a virtual three-dimensional space, which allows for camera movement, realistic lighting, and depth. Neither is better than the other. The right choice depends on the story, the audience, and the brand. We work across both 2D and 3D animation, so we can advise honestly on what suits your project best.

Quite a range. Our 2D work spans hand-drawn frame-by-frame animation, vector animation, cel-style animation, flat design motion graphics, illustrated animation, collage techniques, and mixed media. We don't have a single "house style" that we force onto every project. The style should come from the brief, not the studio. We'll always recommend the approach that serves the story and works for your budget.

Not at all. Some clients come to us with a finished script and detailed references. Others have nothing more than a vague idea and a deadline. Both are fine. We offer full creative development, including scriptwriting, storyboarding, and concept work. If you already have a script or storyboard, we're happy to work from that too.

A brief is the ideal starting point, but it doesn't need to be polished. Tell us what the animation needs to achieve, who the audience is, where it will be shown, and any references or examples that inspire you. If you have brand guidelines, share those too. If you're not sure where to start, just get in touch and we'll help you shape the brief together.

Yes. We regularly work within established brand systems, translating static guidelines into animated form while keeping everything on-brand. Send us your guidelines, key assets, and any examples of how the brand has been used before, and we'll make sure the 2D animation feels like a natural extension of your visual identity.

We've produced 2D animation for brands, agencies, broadcasters, charities, cultural institutions, government bodies, and production companies. Our client list includes ITV, Sky, PepsiCo, and Uniqlo alongside independent filmmakers and activist organisations. The common thread isn't the sector. It's clients who care about the quality of the work.

Yes, all of it. Sound is a critical part of any animation, and we treat it with the same care as the visuals. We work with trusted composers and sound designers to create original scores, source and direct voiceover recordings, and build bespoke soundscapes. Everything is delivered as a finished, polished piece.

We deliver in whatever formats you need. That typically includes ProRes or H.264 for broadcast and web, MP4 for social platforms, GIF or WebM for lighter web use, and any other spec your team or platform requires. We also provide social media cutdowns and aspect ratio variations (16:9, 9:16, 1:1) if your content needs to work across multiple channels.

Absolutely. Social content is one of the most common things we produce. We design and animate content specifically for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube, optimised for each platform's specs, aspect ratios, and attention patterns. Whether it's a series of short loops, a longer brand film cut down for social, or native social-first content, we've got it covered.

Motion graphics typically involve animated typography, shapes, icons, data visualisations, and brand elements. They're great for explainers, social content, and anything where the information itself is the star. Character animation involves creating and animating illustrated characters with personality, expression, and movement. It's used when you need emotional storytelling, narrative, or a brand mascot. We do both, and plenty of projects blend the two.

Very much so. A large portion of our work comes through agencies, production companies, and post-production houses who need a specialist 2D animation team they can trust. We're used to working within existing creative frameworks, responding to agency briefs, and delivering on their timelines.

Yes. While we offer the full pipeline from script to delivery, we're also happy to step in at any stage. Some clients come to us with a finished storyboard and need animation production only. Others want us to handle creative development and hand off to their in-house team for animation. We're flexible and will fit into whatever workflow makes sense for your project.

As involved as you want to be. Our process is built around regular check-ins and shared progress. You'll see and approve the work at key milestones: script, storyboard, styleframes, animation, and sound. We won't disappear for weeks and resurface with a finished film. That said, if you'd prefer to give us the brief and let us run with it, that works too. We'll adapt to however your team likes to work.

We use AI as a production tool where it genuinely helps, not as a replacement for artists. Our animators, illustrators, and designers are the creative core of every project. AI might speed up certain technical tasks or help us explore ideas in the early stages, but the craft, the taste, and the creative decisions are always human. That's what makes the work feel like ours, and yours.

Three things, mainly. First, we're illustrators and animators by training, not a tech company that happens to do animation. That shows in the design quality. Second, we give every project proper creative direction from start to finish, so the work is cohesive and intentional. Third, we're genuinely collaborative. We don't guard the process or hide behind jargon. You'll always know where your project stands and why we're making the choices we're making.
