A Modern Fairytale , Vegan Activism

2D Hand-Drawn Animation | Narrative Film

A Modern Fairytale is a hand-drawn animated short we created in collaboration with vegan activists Kate Fowler and Christopher Shoebridge. It's a film about an industry that got too big, too powerful, and too good at telling people what to want. And about what it takes to wake up.

The Story

A happy village. A looming corporate castle nobody seems to notice. Advertising that slowly becomes propaganda, turning the villagers into vacant, meat-eating zombies. A small pig that escapes into the devastation the industry has left behind. And a single moment of connection between that pig and a girl that sparks a chain reaction, waking the village and dissolving the machine that consumed them.

Led by a poetic narrator whose prose carries the viewer through each act, the film moves like a bedtime story with teeth.

The Approach

This one was personal.

The project was led by Myth Studio's Leif Zix, themselves a committed proponent of the vegan activist cause. That passion ran through every decision, from the earliest storyboards to the final frame.

We worked closely with Kate and Christopher over the course of a year, building the film from the ground up together. They brought deep knowledge of the movement and its messaging. We brought the craft. The result feels honest to both.

The animation production was entirely 2D. Every single frame meticulously hand-drawn by our team, from the bustling village scenes right through to the scorched forests and industrial wastelands the pig wanders through alone. The kind of work where you can feel the hours in every brushstroke. A frame-by-frame approach suited this story best. It gave the film texture and weight, where even the ugliest frames carry a strange kind of beauty because someone sat down and drew them with care.
