Forever Young , IMG
Brand Film
What do you get when you cross a team of multi-disciplinary artists, a superstar Japanese racehorse and a love of My Neighbour Totoro?
We were delighted when Gerard de Waal and Neil Green from IMG approached us to create an anime-inspired biopic, telling the rise of the now-legendary racehorse Forever Young. Born of two great lineages and bought by the iconic trainer Yoshito Yahagi, it's the kind of story that deserves the full Studio Ghibli treatment. On a tight turnaround, no less.
The film was first broadcast in February ahead of the Saudi Cup. Forever Young then took the victory, winning one of the most iconic races in the history of the sport. Probably because of the film.
After such a dramatic finish, IMG came back to us to create part two. This final version showcases Forever Young's origin story alongside a retelling of that epic Saudi Cup "race for the ages".
For the Myth team, this project was a triumph of our multi-disciplinary approach to animation. We combined frame-by-frame, 3D and vector workflows with strong creative direction to deliver a highly illustrative piece that punches well above its turnaround time.
3D workflows let us get the most out of procedural and looping animations, plus those big sweeping camera moves. 2D frame-by-frame character animation is unmatched for charm and personality. And 2D backgrounds gave our artists the space to really lean into digital painting, creating stunning environments throughout.
A huge thank you to Gerard de Waal, Neil Green, IMG and HBA Media for collaborating with us on this one.
